Default Turbo Replacement

Good Evening All. Got my 01 S60 2.4T checked out by 2 different trusted mechanics to diagnose my car smoking a bluish/white color out of the exhaust. In addition, car was making a whistling/winding noise. Both mechanics determined that the turbo was done and that the front o2 sensor may have been going bad. I'm looking to replace the turbo but have three questions.

1. Can I replace the turbo with the T5 turbo? One mechanic said he could do this and that the turbo was pulled of a slightly newer model meaning it could have a longer life span.

2. Should I replace it with a regular stock used turbo for the 2.4T?

3. Once the turbo is changed, what else should I have the mechanic look at and change to make sure I'm not getting haggled (oil, coolant, o2 sensor, clean throttle body?)

Thanks guys!

1. yes u can, but i don't think they r exact fit. u may need to do some mod to it. but the boost won't make too much different cuz is all regulate by the ecm.
2. I would just replace the oe one for the car. unless u r into racing.
3. u may need to top up some engine oil & coolant since u will loose some during replacement. clear all dtc before for test then see if any dtc comes back. then recheck for coolant & oil to see if the new turbo is good.

Thank you. I appreciate your response. I'm not a big racer so I might consider just going with the OEM turbo for my car. Looks like I'll need an ECU tuneup, a 3'' downpipe, and maye a few other things if I went with the t5 turbo charger.
