Default volvo s60 2.4 turbo - bad throttle body anyone used a aftermarket one ?

Hi my 2002 volvo s60 2.4 turbo has a problem of when it gets hot the car goes into limp home mode and runs like crap, I ran the codes says throttle body stuck open. I pulled throttle body off to see if it the throttle body blade was so dirty it was sticking. It was brown around the edges but not that bad. I cleaned it but don't think it will help. I think the throttle position sensor might be bad and the computer might not be able to sense where the throttle blade is anymore. Is there a way to use electrical tester to test if it is bad? I can't send this one in to get rebuilt the 400- 800 cost is more than this car is worth. I also don't want to try a whole bunch of used ones till I find a good one. I found that ebay sells a lot of aftermarket ones for this car, some even have a year warranty and are below 100.00. How well do you think these would work? I've heard that the throttle body is tied to the vin number of the car. Would it work but just throw a bad check engine light on computer? I've also heard something about a way of getting the computer to sense where the throttle blade is again. Would this help any? Thanks for your help.

A 2002 s60 2.4 turbo - has a bosch throttle body that rarely fails. The connections to it do fail and there is a service kit (replacement wires) to solve that. 2002 non turbo, and 2001 turbo has the all will fail Magnetti Marelli (sp) throttle module. What year and what throttle do you have? Pictures in the xemodex link below. Note the 2002+ bosch throttle from xemodex comes with the replacement wiring harness (to really solve the "I got a bad throttle module and need to replace it" syndrome - when it did not really need a throttle, just the wiring would fix it)

I think It's one of the second type down as listed on that page, electronic with I think the mechanical tps sensor. I'm going to open it up and check later What wires have the problem or is it the wiring connectror? How do you know the wires or connector is bad for sure also?

I just paid north of $1000 US to have my throttle body replaced at the dealer. The dealer or an indy shop with a Vadis subscription are the only ones qualified to replace the throttle body as the new unit has to be mated to the car and is specific to the VIN. Don't waste your time and money pulling one off a wreck at a breakers yard. I went through all that with no success. 2001-02 S & V 60's were notorious for this issue with the Italian made throttle body. You can't get anyone on the phone at Xemodex. BTW- after getting the throttle body replaced at the dealer, the car runs like new. Sorry to say the only way to get it fixed right is to bite the bullet and visit the dealer.

The OP has a 2002 turbo car. That car uses a bosch throttle module that is not coded to the car. A new one is plug and play. A 99-2002 non-turbo uses the Magnetti Marelli (sp) throttle that does have to be "coded" to the car. The Bosch throttles have poor connection problems.

I've used xemodex for a couple of hundred modules during the past at least 15 years - and have always been amazed with their great fast and accurate service. Perhaps they have grown too fast recently if you can't get them on the phone.
