Default what do you think? Trade in my paid off s60?

I have a fully paid off 2012 S60 T6 AWD with the polestar upgrade, I think it was the first s60 you could get with that option.

I was at Volvo today and they said they would give me 15k for it towards a lease of a 2018 S60 Dynamic T5 AWD with the climate, convenience and sport package. Wish it had the HK stereo but it does not.

Not being a big car guy, I wanted to ask if you think its worth keeping the 2012 (its a lot more fun to drive with 100+ HP over the 2018) or commit to keeping it for another 3 or 4 years. My fear is any repair costs more than anything. I just replaced the front struts for a few thousand, wondering what might be next.

thanks for your opinions,
ggw

Do whatever you think is best. You are the only one invested in the decision.

That is an 'interesting' response. My best thinking may not be correct which is why I asked for opinions here, useful ones hopefully.

Sounds to me like the salesperson is fishing for a new deal - there's nothing wrong with keeping you '12 assuming you like it. Some recent financial planner research suggested cars start depreciating more quickly after 100K miles, and assuming your car is in good shape with a clean car fax history, you are going to get more $$ via a private sale than via trade in. Third point is if you are ok with buying after the summer when dealers clear current inventory for the new model year, you can improve your negotiating power. I currently drive a 2012 with 80K miles and plan on keeping it for at least 2 more years. The last 2 cars I bought new I owned for 20+ years (just sold my 95 850T this year and still have a 00 S40). but I am ok doing most of my own maintenance. If you are not a DIY type, I'd say your decision point is somewhere about 100-120K miles when big maintenance items like timing belts come due.

Thank you for your reply mt6127. That is encouraging. I'm thinking I'll keep it a few years longer now. The new refresh should be out by then too, or maybe I'll go for the long run as you have. No car payments for the last year has been a good feeling.

take care,
-greg
