Hello everyone,

I had a very strange problem on my 2001 S60 T5 this morning.

Firstly, the front passenger door would not unlock (the button on the door did not move). I was driving for about 15 minutes when I noticed the indicators didn't work at all. I tried the windscreen wipers, they did not work and finally, the remote control buttons for the radio mounted on the steering wheel did not work. I'm not sure what else wasn't working but I did manage to test the headlights and main beam which were OK.

Suspecting a fuse had blown, I drove to the local garage and instinctively indicated, lo and behold the indicators were now working. I checked the other things and they were also now working (apart from the front passenger door).

Has anyone got any idea what is going wrong ?

One of 2 things is happening

1. The electrical part of the ignition switch is bad.

2. The steering wheel module is bad. If it happens again see if the wipers only work on one speed. See if the High Beams work.

I have seen both Issues . Number 1 is the cheapest. Number to the Dealer has to install and download software.

Also if it happens see if playing with the ignition switch makes everything work again.

I didn't check the wipers for operation on 1 speed only, but I did check the main beam and that worked OK. Does that give you a clue ?

Not really but If you know someone that can pull codes in all the systems it might help you.
If the steering wheel module is bad it will set codes.

 

Could also be a bad relay. I had this problem before and thought it was the ignition switch, I don't remember which relay it was though.

Problem happened again briefly. I now understand what you mean about the wipers because whichever position the wiper switch was in (intermittent, slow or fast), the wipers ran at the same speed. This is different to the first time it happened, then the wipers didn't work at all.

If anyone knows which relay might be faulty (as per DMELVI007's post) please let me know.

It is not a relay it is the Steering wheel Module.
