Cool 1998 S70 Non-turbo - PCV service question

Specs:

98 S70/Non-turbo/auto, 115k miles, garage kept - regular service...

Positive pressure from oil dipstick, a slight typical chimney of white smoke coming out of it...

I have a former master mech w/ a lift who is willing to help me change out the PCV system. :-)

I wonder for all you longtime owners of this kind of car if there is anything else that I could do for preventative maintenance while I have the manifold off?

I have seen the phenolic manifold spacer on ipds site... worth it? and why?

Short blowing out the manifold to rid it of all the crud - new pcv kit... what else can i do to clean it up?

Thanks in advance - looking forward to your answers - hope to place order for parts as soon as I hear from a few of you...

Just replace the PCV system; make sure all the fittings the PCV hoses goto on the engine are clear too. De-gunk the throttle assembly while in there. I wouldn't waste $$ on that manifold spacer; especially on a N/A.

Thanks gdog.

Ordered the breather kit from FCP today to do the job Friday. The mechanic told me that now is a good time to change anything else out while we have the manifold off and related parts for the breather kit. I mean - other parts that can be changed out that aren't normally easy to get to with the manifold on. He asked about the injectors, me buying rings....possibly cleaning them...is that something that wouldn't take too much longer?

I don't know. Anybody have suggestions? Within reason I suppose.

Thanks in advance/

Heck, I'd throw a can of Seafoam down 'er first. I think I've seen somewhere that it cleared up a PVC system.

Cool

Thanks again - Yes I thought about that (SEAFOAM) as well. I'll wait till after the breather kit is changed. That means another oil change and I just got it done. Other ideas?

Hard to reach vacuum or elbow hoses ? I need to order this stuff to have it ready by Friday for free access to a garage.

Thanks.

Pcv job done - what a difference!

Note image areas circled in red. Cracks in these rubber stress points caused my PO172 - fuel too rich code (vacuum leak)

While I was in there - cleaned out all other ports to engine/and checked connects... all good.

Also cleaned out manifold/throttle-body/air-box hoses, (whats known as an old school carbon and valve job according to my mechanic)

checked pistons - clean, no carbon deposits...

Lower revs up to through the powerband is improved ten-fold. There is a noticeable mileage improvement as well.

Jah, Sven highly suggests this be done to your car if it hasn't already - unbelievable.
