From what i know from 1998-2000 are interchangable. so is like plug and play, no lights should come on. Mine is a base v70 from 1998 and i purchased fog lights, switches for front fog lights and for the trip info from a 2000xc found at the junk yard and the relay for the fog lights from a 850 dont know the year found at the junk yard too. Everything was plug and play. The dash bord cluster with trip computer info i found some info to a store and asked them if it match my car and they told me cause it work except the trip info if i dont have the switch. so now i will go back to the junk yard and take that cluster and put it in. If you can wait few days i can be 100% sure about all this.

I have heard that 98 is different from 99-00. You can tell which ones are later production easily: The 99-00 say "MAX" on the fuel gauge instead of "18" on the 98's.

I saw this on another volvo forum as well "You'll have either 18 or MAX as the "full" indication depending on whether you have a Motronic 4.3 (pre-'99) or CAN ('99-'00) cluster."

That said, its possible that a 98 may fit in a 99 or a 99 may fit in a 98 but will everything work correctly, probably not.
