Default 98 S70 with ac leak maybe

Joe here,

Hello, I will be purchasing a 98 s70 glt this weekend!

I know a volvo mechanic so thats partly why i have decided to get one.

Questions tho that I need more input on tho from a community.

AC didnt work first time i looked at it last weekend but everthing else on the car look golden and felt very solid.

Might of had some rack and pinion issues but my mechanic can help me with that.

So the ac didnt work last weekend, and the car dealership called me monday to tell me that they re-charged the system and it works fine now. If the car had been sitting for some time...maybe 2 months, perhaps more, would the a/c stop blowing cold? isn't that a sign of a slow leak some where in the system. I really need to get it to a A/C shop to get it tested but if there is a way to investigate it on the lot, i would like to.

Advice?

The recharge took care of a leak; how long it will last is anyone's guess. Maybe a day, a week, a year; who knows; it just depends on how bad the leak is.

Plan on taking it to an AC shop; they will put dye in the system and/or ck for leaks with a sniffer. If possible, do this before you purchase; otherwise get them to knock $$ off of the price.

These cars have somewhat of a reputation for evaporators going bad, but I've never had a problem (so far...).

Did you have your tech ck out the car? If not, do so, preferably before you hand the dealer any $$$ or sign any contract.
