'98 S70 Quirky A/C
OK, inherited another Volvo from my in-laws for my second daughter's car. '98 S70 seems like a pretty good car so far with one exception. A/C is kind of funky in one regard...
When A/C is on and car is turned off with the fan switch left on the A/C will not work when car is started again. Work around so far is to try to remember to turn fan to off before shutting car down. If car is started with fan on the A/C will not work until fan is turned off and car restarted. Most of what I have seen searching this site seems to discuss shiming the compressor, but this seems more control related. My FIL states that if he takes the relay out of the box and sticks it in the freezer it will work properly for an indeterminate time. He had replaced the relay a few times and they all have done this. Any thoughts?
TIA,
Kirk

If you have access to another control unit try swapping them. I would also make sure at the compressor that it is getting power or not while the ac is inop. If the compressor is getting power its the clutch if its not try jumping the pressostat by the fire wall. That should kick the compressor on immediatly. Let us know.
