98 s70 steering rack
I am in the middle of replacing steering rack 98 s70 T5 does anyone have any tips on how to separate coupling / u joint from steering wheel shaft to the steering rack without disassembling the car? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
In order for the steering rack to come out the rear if the subframe needs to be dropped down quite a but to get it out.
You would have to support the motor and drop the subframe in the rear.

Tech,
I'm working in my garage and a little cramped, how exactly do I drop the sub frame w/o killing myself? would I be separating the body from the frame? I guess my question is; since I'm not on a lift do I put jack stands under the sub frame and lift the car/body up and away to gain the clearance I will need?

Tech,
Got the old rack out and the new one roughly in position however I'm having a line up problem, the whole rack apppears to be too far forward on the sub-frame. Is the center mount symetrical? I didn't look close when I when I removed it and the only thing I can think is that the stud which goes through the sub-frame is off center and I have it in backwards. Kind of had enough for today maybe I crawl under tomorrow and every thing falls into place. Thanks for all the help.

You have to mess with it and work it into the holes as you put the subframe back up.
Loosen the bracket for the center stud so it moves some and get the rack in then tighten the bolt back up. That might help some as well.

Tech,
Car is back on 4 wheels after a few cuts, bumps and bruises, I hate the u joint and the location of the lines but it is 90 % done. I have one last question for you, tomorrow morning I am going to bleed the system then take for alignment how ever I am a little conflicted as to what fluid to use. When this odyssey started I changed the pump I knew in my heart it wasn't the pump but it was easy and when I went to NAPA for fluid they sold me the CFH 11S (green) $21.00. The pump and the rack both came with what appeared to be tranny fluid in them and the system also appeared to have trans fluid, so my question is what is the correct power steering fluid for a 1998 S70 T5? Once again thanks for the help!
