Default 99 S70 AWD rough

so, I took the vehicle to the shop as my son said the car has ben running rough and the ets light goes on and off intermitently. They said no trouble codes so they can not replace the module and will not clean it. They will however update the software for 160.00 which they say is required and not covered...

I agree...not really sure what I can do about it..I went with the updates though. I drove the car, it seemed pretty good to me, I gues I will have to keep an eye on it and wait till my son calls me from the road. In the past the dealership I have used has been pretty good with things, but I have noticed latly they are becoming more and more money driven for every little thing, although I do recognize they are in business to make money. I am not sure what advantage there is to not clean or change the throttle body if there was a problem, or to say there were no codes when there were. I gues to some extent we are at there mercy, sorta like going to a doctor.

I assume there weren't any codes because the light didn't stay on. So maybe the storage whatever didn't keep them.

No, just the intermitent est light, I drove the car and I thought it was fine, I will take it for a few days and see what happens. If he gets stuck on the way to school ill never here the end of it.

Does he have a Dealer near where he goes to school?

Beat on the car some and see if anything happens.

I will have to see, possibly. I intend on getting on it a bit and push it to see if I can get it to happen with me. If the ets (est) is going will that help it along?

If the light is on that means the fault is present.

Volvo says they need to be done at 105,000.
I have seen them break at 60,000.
The tensioner and idler pulleys go bad as well.
Have it inspected by someone. My rule of thumb would be to do it at 70,000.
