Default 99 S70 electrical Issues

Greetings All,

I have read the forum for quite some time and decided to join this great community. We have owned 3 Volvos and currently own an 06 XC90 and 99 S70. The s70 was great until 120,000s and beyond. I am now closing in on 150,000. The ABS light came on around 90,000 and I found someone that rebuilds them and that was great. I have also had Volvo replace the ETS ( I had the stalling issue ) about a year and half ago . My current issues are piling up. The check engine light is either on and blinks. ( I have a great local volvo mechanic but he said that the only code he could get was one of the ignition wires .. he was not sure which one though) The air condition only blows cool for about 10 minutes then hot air. ( Mechanic checked and the air conditioner itself is charged ) . The windows no longer roll down . .gets little hot once air stops lol. I am at a loss. I have read about wire harnesses, window control switches, and so many other topics. I have since realized that the 99 S70 seems to be the lemon of that series. Has anyone had similar issues? It just seems to me that there is some huge over-arching issue with the electrical system. I am just afraid of spending ALOT of money on this thing trying to find out what is wrong and still have the issues.

Thanks for any help.

The only thing that makes the 99 and 00 the "lemons" of the series is the ETS issue. Your '99 doesn't have plug wires, it has individual coils. A coil could likely be bad. Start by changing the plugs, and if that doesn't help, clean the injectors. Find out which cylinder is misfiring. (that's probably the code that's coming up.) Do (or have your mechanic do) a compression check, to rule out internal engine issues, and then change the coil on the misfiring cylinder. The air conditioner problem is very common to these cars- sounds like the compressor needs to be shimmed. (there's a pretty good writeup on this in the resources thread (I think) or in the 850 forum.) This isn't a particularly expensive problem to fix. Finally, the window issue could be a number of things... check all fuses first, then move on to wiring, and finally, the switch. Good luck!
