Default ABS/TRAC Module-brake pad's

Hi,
I own a 1998 Volvo S70, 133k. I am not very familiar with the Volvo brand as of yet, I've put many of wrench hours on the current vehicle though. I have a couple questions regarding the ABS/TRAC light I have on my dash. I found out it is very possible the control module is the cause of my grief. I've examined ABS sensors, and cleaned. It is intermittent at best. Is it true about the cracking of the mounting bracket, maybe causing a bad connection? Oh yeah, both CV axles have less then a 1k's on them both. Lights on before install, lights on after.

Now on to my other question which is, what brand and composite brake pads does anybody recommend for this vehicle. I have never had such dirty brakes in my life. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am new to this Volvo forum, I am a certified tech, just not professionally experienced on the Volvo line. I am willing to share any info I learn on this forum as well, I am trying to learn the ins and outs of the vehicle. If I can be of help to anybody, feel free to contact me and hopefully I can help. Thank you for your time in my matter.

Most likely it is the ABS module going bad. It is an easy repair and there are web sites that walk you through the removal/reinstallation process. I was getting the intermittent light on my sons 850 and removed and sent to BBA Remanufacturing (on ebay) and they repaired and returned it to me. Reinstalled and haven't had the light come on since.

Volvo pads are the dustiest I've ever encountered but I've also heard they are the best at stopping you. Composite pads are susceptible to squeakingon Volvo's for some reason.

+1 on what jks2 said.

I would rather put up with brake dust over squealing. I have been driving Volvos for 22 years and swear by OEM pads. I had to do the ABS module on my 97 850 not too long ago. I used Victor Rocha. Here is a link to his website:

Thank you guys for the input, I really appreciate it. Im still trying to learn Volvo. Hands on mainly. I will give that guy a shot at fixing the module for me. This will be the first time I have ever gotten brake pads from the dealer, but I believe you when you say OEM for the Volvo. You know way better than me. You are right, they sure do stop good.
