Default Blower Motor Bad?

Hi all,

This is my first thread on here, so I'm still a little confused as to how it all works... I recently purchased a 2000 Volvo S70, everything about it has been awesome except for my problem with the Fans not working. Every time I turn my car on my fans turn on for about 2 seconds stop then start again for another 2 seconds or so, then the A/C OFF light and the REC light flash orange. After searching on this forum for some time I have found it difficult to diagnose the problem fully, so I decided I would post my specific problem and see if anybody else has had this happen to them, and how they fixed it.

I've come to the conclusion that it is either the blower motor or the blower motor resistor, or maybe even both. I would really appreciate any professional advice as to what part/s it is, and how to fix it.

My thanks in advance,
Dave

Dave, I'm not 100% sure but it sounds like your blower motor is going out. It's a little tricky when something works and don't work, then works and don't work.

My blower motor in my 850 started squeeking like a mouse so I took it out and lubed it. Now, when i start the car for the 1st time in the morning, it will blow for about 2 seconds and shut totally off. It will not start again unless I turn the car totally off and start all over. Then it works fine unless I leave the car off for longer than 4 hours. After that it works about 80% of the time.

Sorry no one has a definate answer yet. You can try replacing the cheepest part 1st and moving up in price range.

Blower motor and or resistor is bad.

I would just replace both to save you trouble.

Thank you both,

It turned out to be the blower motor, I ended up replacing the resistor first and had the exact same thing happen so I decided to buy the blower motor. As soon as I replaced that it worked wonderfully.

Suprisingly the install was incredibly easy, all I had to do was take out the glove compartment and passenger side kick panel (a total of 8 torx screws) then it was right there behing that.

I hope this thread will help anybody else having similar issues, and again thank you for your help.

Dave
