Default A/C blower problem

Hello all, I'm new to this board. I've got a 1998 S70 GLT with 60,000 miles on it (yes, that is correct. My mom's car and she drove it like Miss Daisy). When I turn the A/C on, it blows full blast fine, but the longer I drive, it seems to want to come out of the defroster and not the front vents. Any suggestions?

Are you sure it is coming out of the defroster?
The low pressure switch might be bad and the evaperator might be freezing up.

Not sure exactly. It just sounds like it's coming out of the top of the dash instead of the front vents. But the time interval thing I guess is what tells the tale.

Try turning the A/C only off and let the control stay on vents and see if it comes back after about 5 minutes. If so let it freeze up again and when it gets at its worse point open the hood quick and look at the pipes going into the car on the passenger side and see if they are frozen. If so then most likely the low pressure switch is bad.

Thanks for the 411. Also, another issue with it is that I have to turn the temp up to about 80 to keep it from blowing cold enough to hang meat. Could that also be related to that switch? If that is the culprit, how many hours of labor does it typically take to replace it?

Yes could be related.
Should be about 1/2 labor.

Id pull the dash and check the housing for air duct. Take it apart, clean it out.

Also on some cars when the coolant gets too cold durimg winter to can rig a peice of cardbosrd infront of the radiator. Works, but remember to remove of your going up big hills or weather heats up
