Exclamation car help

this weekend while on the highway, after making a lane change i noticed stopped cars. i was going about 110km/h so i slammed on the brakes. all my wheels locked up and the car started to slide. luckily i got control of the car and managed to safely avoid a collision. my car is equiped with abs, but i dont think the abs kicked in. the brake did not vibrtate and my wheels locked up. if this has every happened to any one and knows what might have caused this please let me know!!!! thanks

A bad ABS module. If all the wheels locked up the system failed. Read your OBD-II port for codes and check the light bulb. Then find some wet pavement and test the system.

The ABS light being on means it is broken. You should get it fixed.

i spoke to a mechanic today and he said that the abs still works its just that it went into "panic mode" because i applied the brakes too fast. is this true?

Never heard of that. ABS was designed so the wheels wouldn't lock up and cause you to lose or better yet, not have control over your car when engaged in an emergency situation. The system "pumps" the brakes with less than full force many times a second to help you maintain control while coming to a controlled stop. If your wheels locked up, all 4 and the road conditions didn't include ice, wet or uneven pavement or crappy tires, you have got a problem. Go to another mechanic and just ask them to check your brakes, don't feed them information which can be used to blow smoke up your ***.

Please don't ever ask that mechanic anything else about cars and find someone that cares of you live past tomorrow. Find another mechanic that know what they are doing.
