I bought a 2000 S70 with 80,000 miles on it a month ago. While driving it on the freeway a few days ago, i was forced to stopped quickly because of a mattress in the road. I didn;t skid to a stop but had to stop pretty fast. When i did this, the car shut off. I had to put it into park, and restart it. Please, if anyone knows what this might be caused from, please let me know.

Fluke stall?

I had this happen while driving my 940 on an ordinary road, just once, never again.
I'm sure tech has more insight than I though.

 

Has the throttle body been cleaned lately?

 

i dont think so. What would that do?

 

When they get dirty there is like a carbon build up which throws off the electronic settings. So when you let off the throttle it seals and cuts off all the air through the throttle body stalling the car.
Also when you slow down does the idle drop low then come back up?
If so that is the classic sign of a dirty throttle body.

 

I currently don't have this problem but what do you clean the throttle body with once you have it out?

 

Technically there is a special cleaner for the 99 and up cars but carb or brake cleaner works great as well.
Volvo says to only use the special cleaner but I have seen cars over a 9 year period that only had brake cleaner used and never any problems from it.
