Default Check Engine Light and Hazard Flashers

Hey guys. My check engine light turned on just yesterday and I looked at it and everything seemed to check out okay. I cannot obtain the codes for the error because I don't know exactly how. The hazard lights came on tonight while I was driving and my car suddenly slowed down a bit. The check engine light is still on. Yesterday I smelled something burning a bit but my oil was just changed and I thought maybe a drop or two was spilled on some hot parts. Anyways, any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

The codes need to be pulled using a scanner. The OBDII plug is under the canter console lid.
