Default Coolant Sensor

I have a 1999 S70 non turbo, and I'm confused about the coolant sensor and float. The reservior coolant level has always been at the minimum line, and the light hasn't ever come on. Yesterday, I decided to top off the tank to the max line, and the light came on.

When I siphon the coolant in the reservoir back down to the min line the light turns off. I may be crazy, but this is opposite of what I thought the float and sensor should do.

I have already cleaned the sensor contacts, but was wondering if there was anything else that I can do before I buy a new sensor and reservoir.

Thanks, Mike

Sounds like the sensor went South.

Thanks for your inut. I picked up a sensor last week along with a reservior, upper and lower hose. They all looked a little rough so I'll replace them this weekend, and hopefully fix the problem.
