Recently had to change S70 T5 drivers side drive axle as CVS bearing went. Purchased an EMPI replacement from FCP and installed. Once installed it was apparent that something was wrong as a strong wobble/vibration existed (similar to failed unit but it had loud noise). Removed unit to check correct replacement, re-installed and same issue occurred. Removed brake caliper and rotor to check not bent, but wobble continued without those items fitted, hub looks ok (but not sure what to look for). Went to remove again and this time axle stuck in, finally levered out and noticed a small amount of metal had appeared to wear off transmission shaft and welded to drive shaft at the entrance (just behind seal). Is it possible that the transmission drive has failed and is actually causing the wobble, if so how do you test? Otherwise any other ideas appreciated.
