Disaster! 1998 Volvo S70 Non-Turbo, 173k miles.
You have spark, fuel in the rail, air. compression and likely timing.
A couple of suggestions...
-Fuel in the rail under pressure tells you the fuel pump/regulator is working. It doesn't mean the injectors are firing and letting gas into the cylinder. You could remove the rotor and crank the engine with the plugs in. After even a few seconds of that the plugs should get wet with gas. If they are dry, the injecgtors aren't firing.
-Check all 5 cylinders for spark.
-If you have access to a timing light, hook it up and check the timing. While its electronic ignition, you should be fairly close to tdc when cranking. Maybe 10 degrees off? You should see the mark on the harmonic balancer.
- You could take off the timing cover again and verify all the marks like up. I don;t know if the engine could be 180 degrees off and not bend the valves.
-Does the engine attempt to fire at all? If you have air, spark and fuel the engine will run. The only way it won;t run is if one of the valves is open when the firing happens. Could you have a spark plut wiring issue? If all are firing, but the firing order is wrong the engine will nto start. I would think you would get some kind of firing going on.
-If you crank the engine and you have spark, fuel, air and nothing happens then you have to have valves open or something seriously wrong. Did you check compression on all 5 cylinders?
