Default engine cooling system troubles

folks,

Recently the radiator cooling fan has begun running non stop and continues for several minutes after shutting off the engine rather than the typical cycling on and off. I am noticing that the thermostat is now running a line or two below mid range versus typically running about a line above the midpoint. I am also getting a check engine light display which a few months ago was determined to be related to a temperature sensor for the coolant but it went away after resetting. The pin connections for the sensor were slightly oxidized so I sprayed them with wd 40 and the problem went away.

Is it possible that the sensor has finally failed for good and would that cause the radiator fan to run constantly which in turn explains the lower running temp for the engine coolant.

Any advice would be appreciated

My £1 says replace the temperature sensor & you'll say bye bye to all those other symptoms you've mentioned.

Let us know how you get on.

Also replace the Thermostat. I am about 55% sure the thermostat is broke as well.
They are pretty common for the thermostats to break. It also makes it easier to replace the sensor with the housing apart.

Thanks for the advice guys. As luck would have it, it seems that the sensor decided to work again at least for the time being. I still have the check engine light but the running temp and fan are back to normal. I agree, it is time to replace the sensor.

Tech, I replaced the thermostat this past summer. Do you still think I should replace it again?

Thanks for your help?

If the car has been run hot at all then I would replace it anyways just to be safe.
