Default RE: ETS Issues/Recall need advice

Update: So I'm told today after getting yet another professional opinion that I need the throttle body replaced...again. The recall was done only 12,000 miles ago and the car has 106,000 now. I'm told that the previous owner actually had to pay for the recall because the car has a salvage title. I am going to try giving Volvo a chance to make good on this part and then if they wont the plan is to take Volvo to small claims court for the cost of the repair be cause my lawyer doesn't think Volvo will send an attorney out to my hometown.

I was quoted about $500 for used part + labor and $900 for new+labor.

I welcome any thoughts on this topic.

As far as I know a used one cannot be installed. You would have to go the new route.

It was the Throttle Position Sensor. And they cleaned my turbo sensor, also, and cleared codes and road tested. No codes have come back yet (3 days later) They also replaced the end links in the front end so the ride is smoother now... getting much better gas millage...anyone want her?

Capeman, good to hear that you have solved your auto problems..........I just want to comment on 10 December posting re: filing suit against Volvo. First you have to understand that you do not have a leg to stand on re: the 100,000 mile extended warranty simply because you have a "totaled" vehicle and there is no warranty. A salvage title takes any warranty extended or otherwise away. Now as to the defective ETM (which did turn out to be OK), you suit would have to be against the dealer who supplied the part and not Volvo who made it. Sure, you could file against Volvo, but you would be better served to name the dealer who installed a defective part. It is then up to the dealer to seek reimbursement from Volvo. You have to understand that you would have to prove that the ETM was installed correctly and would need an expert.............Volvo would simply say that their parts are AOK and it was sloppy mechanics who made the part 'not work'. Lastly as it pertains to Volvo not answering your complaint and not appearing, realize that they would assign the case to a local defense atty to represent them. I am not sure as to the rules in your state, but in many states the defendant can have the case removed from small claims and placed in a District Court which would almost mandate that you hire an atty to represent you. At any rate, the big problem was that you purchased a vehicle with a defective title as it was salvage. I do feel for you as I have been following your posts and I am amazed at the number of problems that you have encountered. Whoever rebuilt your Volvo must have used a lot of new paint covering up issues.

agreed. Dad turned me on to the car and feels bad and has paid latest repairs. While she runs good for now, I can't believe I ever agreed to purchase a "salvaged title" vehicle. I'll stay certified used from now on. She runs great now, but what a scam.

Interestingly a number of years ago there was no such thing as a salvage title and when you bought a 'used' auto.............it was sold "as is" and individuals had absolutely no recourse against the seller. Truly sad. Unless you traced each owner of the auto you never knew what the history of the auto was. Of course if you were able to find that the auto was 'totaled' and the seller knew that and kept that info from you..............then you might find that you had some recourse.

But the good news is that you now have a 'good' Volvo and hopefully you will find many years of driving it ahead of you.
