Question ETS swap

I have read that if install non turbo ets from another non turbo you don't need Volvo to reprogram. Have also read just the opposite can someone tell me which is correct. I have the light and searching idle surging when driven, next question what are opinions on contactless sensor install to fix my problem

As far as the research I have done, apparently some of the ETMs are coded with the cars they're mated too. Not sure if it applies to turbo models. As far as the contactless throttle position sensor, I haven't found any helpful instructions on a proper install of it. I've also read about people having problems after the DIY method. The best solution is going with xemodex and buying either the repair and return program or buying a preprogrammed module. Either way it costs a decent bit. Good luck though!

You have to have the ETM reprogrammed to the car for the years 99-01. Those are when they went electronic. Each ETM has been programmed to the cars VIN number. If your car is a 98, then you don't need to worry and can just switch it out.
