Default flooding at startup? +1 question

i found this thread here and was wondering if that applies to my 1998 s70.

i have been having an issue (like 2-3 times since i got it) where i start up the car, i let it idle for about 10 - 20 seconds and rather quilckly the car just dies it doesnt sputter or anything just lowers the rps quickly till the motor stops. when it stops the battery light and check engine light come on. then it doesnt start right back up and acts like its flooded but after a few moments it works fine. (maybe 4-6 attempts at starting it). at this point the lights go back off and it doesnt have any CEL or battery indicatior is this a common problem? is it the same issue as in the previously mentioned thread. could it be caused by a weak battery?

also, why does the mpg indicatior max out at 99.9? it makes the games of how high can i get it alot less exciting if i know where its going to peg... :-(

argh! there was another question but i cant think of what it was at the moment. thanks again!

What makes you say it's flooded? Does it blow black smoke once it does start? Do you have to floor the go-pedal to get it to start? If it is indeed flooding, that could be caused by leaking/dirty injectors.

Yes, a weak battery could cause this; is your battery on its last legs?

Assuming above is OK and it is not actually flooding, i would try cleaning the idle air valve first.

no black smoke when it starts. I floored the pedal and it started but the two may be completely unrelated. I am suspecting the battery may be giving me some trouble but have not load tested it as of yet.

i'll have to check out that idle air valve. :-)

That link does not apply to your car.
