Default Leaky sunroof

my '00 s70 has a sunroof that leaks during heavy rain. it leaks from the front left corner and the front right corner. people have told me everything on how to fix it from replacing seals to cleaning the drain line. rainy season is coming up and i'd like to get this fixed soon. on the outside it seems as though water pools in the corners.

Sounds like you already have the answer:
  1. Clean out the drains
  2. If that doesn't help, then replace the seals. Most likely number 1 will do it...

Figure out exactly where it is leaking from. The seal is NOT designed to keep water out of the sunroof frame. Check the drains, if something is in the way, clear the drains and you're done. If water is coming in between the seal and the glass, that's another story.

Replacing the seal is easier said than done. It's much easier to seal the sunroof with silicone than to replace the seal. Run water on the sunroof and open the shade. If you see water coming in the glass, water is getting in between the seal & glass. That requires a new seal or you can seal the area (the entire seal area, all the way around). I fixed a few seals on 960's like that.

You can actually see the fwd drains. They sometimes get blocked with tree droppings like leaves, acorns, etc. It's the rear ones that are a pain. Pipe cleaner, wire coat hanger, anything that is stiff can get the trash out of the way. Then you can pour water in the track and make sure it drains out the bottom of the car. I actually put my car on ramps, front then back to check the drains.

My 98 S70 sunroof leaked in the front corner of the passenger side and initially I was able to make it stop by sealing with silicon around the outside seal. That was only a temporary fix however. What frequently happens with these sunroofs is that the metal under the seal is rusting and this keeps the seal from working properly which lets in more water and promotes corrosion. You can remove the seal, clean up the rust (depending on how bad it is), paint the metal with a sealer and then install a new seal. Or you can find a replacement sunroof without the problem. I snagged one on eBay for $100 a couple of years ago and just replaced it. Took about 20 minutes. Been dry ever since.

this isn't an issue, i have pools of water in the corners of mine just about all the time (good-ol Washington weather) and mine does not leak at all.

+1 to what they said.

My 2000 S70 had a leak, with the seal replaced and the drains clear. I found the source to be between the metal frame around the sunroof glass where the glass is fixed to the frame. The repair includes removing the seal that seals the glass to the roof. I bought a new seal with the two corner pieces. I cleaned the metal of rust as well as possible with the glass still attached. The frame rusts eventually compromising the seal between the glass and it. I sealed the metal with POR-15 rust encapsulator. I ran a fine bead of silicone between the glass and the metal frame. I let it cure for 24hr. I reattached the seal with the new corner pieces and all is fine.
The sunroof seal (Seal around the glass) never seals the glass to the roof very well. Seldom the drains get clogged. Actaully they can handle significant water flow before they get overwhelmed. This repair has held over a year now.
The alternative is a new glass frame (I wouldn't buy used due to the rust) and fix it to the glass if you can remove the old frame without damaging the glass. Frame is about $200 and glass is much more. Good Luck
