LF: replace accelerator cable

RE: LF: replace accelerator cable
It really isn't that hard to replace.
Remove it from the gas pedal. There should only be a washer looking thing holding the cable to the pedal.
Then undo it at the motor another clip then unhook it from the wheel.
Then if it is broke at the firewall pull it out and install the new one.
If not broke at the firewall break the plastic (easiest way) then slide the cable out.

Is there anyway to give the engine a little more off-the-line oomph by replacing the accelerator cable? I'm not talking about a miracle job here, just maybe a partial remedy to how sluggish it is off the line. My car's a non-turbo but it seem to me that it should be a bit quicker than it is. Just curious.

Thanks. There is a rubber mount where the cable goes from engine to the interior. Should I remove that rubber as well or I should be able to pull the able through the rubber. I have removed the cable at both end (engine side and gas paddle side). However, how do I get it out through the rubber(I think this rubber keeps the cable entry air tight).

RE: LF: replace accelerator cable
Just wanted to ask a question, while you guys were on the topic. My accelerator pedal seems to stick sometimes. When I compress the pedal after being fully extended it sticks. But after I get passed thet initial stick, everything is good. It happens more when its cold outside. Any suggestions of what to check?

dkbmx, My 98 V70 did the same thing last year and all I did was lubricate the cable on both ends (at the pedal and at the engine) and it's been fine ever since. I think I just squirted some WD40 down the cable and then put some white lithium grease on the exposed part. I never thought that would really fix it, but obviously it did.

If it is real dirty and gummy when the throttle plate snaps shut it will kind of get stuck there.
