Looking to get a S70 with start problems...

I'm trying to pick up a S70 today. The lady is down to $500. She overheated the car and now they can't get it started. The top radiator hose was blown. I think it's either flooded or the head gasket is blown. I never took a motor apart like that (head gasket job). I think I'm going to do a compression test on it and decide what I'm going to do with it from there. I think it will have poor/bad compression if they blew the head gasket or messed up something in the motor.

A cracked Cylinder-Head is a real possibility here. Many stories of overheating end up in new (used) heads.

LOL, that was funny. I'm still laughing. I do realize that it likely has a blown head gasket or some other serious motor problem. And no, I did not drain the oil to see if there is coolant in there.
I have never over heated a car so I'm not sure what all could go wrong with it. I would think that it would still start unless it has no compression. The battery is dead and the jump box they had it hooked up to wouldn't crank it fast enough for anything to happen. I do know that the motor turns, I was going to charge the battery and try to fire it up. I know if the chambers are full of coolant/oil/etc., it will not start. However, I would like to get the battery charged enough to get a good crank on it to see if it will start.
Now, I have seen people flood a car and it not start until they got the chambers dried out. Just happened to my nephew a few days ago. Pulled the plugs, let things dry the fuel out, put them back in and it fired up and is still running 3 weeks later. I know that's wishful thinking but heck, can't blame a guy for dreaming.
Chances are there is damage, most likely head gasket blown and head warped. Which I'm not opposed to giving a stab at fixing. Then I'll be into it for about $1,000 and should be able to sell it for $2,000. As it stands I can drag it home for $500 and I have a buyer for it "as is" for $450. So, if I can't get it started I shouldn't loose much.

What are the odds that all of the heads cracked? Shouldn't this thing still start?

"She stopped as soon as she saw steam coming out." If steam starts coming out, that means the car had been overheating for at least 10 miles.
I've had several cars overheat on me, but I never let them go as far as bursting the upper hose. That is some serious pressure, caused by a severe overheating.
If the hose burst, there is probably coolant all over the bay. And that may be why it is not starting. Best advice is to check the compression first. I've always been skeptical that a head gasket can blow so easily, but there is always a chance.

There is no coolant in the bay. I guess they cleaned it. I texted her and called her and she has not responded yet. My guess is that others are circuling and she's now confused. At $500 the price is right. There is a guy with a red V70 GLT that he claims has a blown head gasket and he's asking $800. It has BBS wheels on it but the car is rough and the paint is dull.
I'll see if the lady calls me back today or tomorrow. The place that has it now said they are going to have it towed to her house because they want it off their lot. There are a lot of car break-in and stuff now days and they don't want anything happening to it on their watch.
