Either you inspect tie rods or balljoints or have them checked.

GET an alignment and wheel balance first.

Then report back. While they are doing the alignment and wheel balance have the rock the wheel hub back and forth and up and down. That may help pin point any suspension issues you have with the sway bar links, lower control arm (with ball joint) and tie rods.

since you are having a toe in condition it usually is tie rods but they will check it out for you.

To specifically answer your question, when my lower control arm bushings deteriorated, there was a distinctive single clunk in the front end on braking and accelerating. I could hear it and feel it through the steering wheel. Plus it felt like the car was shifting to one side very slightly, but only coinciding with the clunk. It does not sound like worn control arm bushings are the cause of your symptoms.

mine was shaky like that and i ended up replacing both control arms and tie rods. topped that off with an alignment and it is all shake free now, and a lot quieter and tighter

Default Hard Down Shift...

On the S70 that I recently picked up for my daughter I feel a clunk when I hit the gas and make it down shift. I can be going around 40 mph and hit the gas to pass someone and I feel a clunk as if the car shifted into a lower gear with a bank. Happens almost every time. Is that a symptom?
