so i just bought a 1999 s70 volvo awd, i got it for 7000, seemed like a good deal being 3200 under blue book

well ive had the car two days and the check engine light came on
i asked the owner today(nov 28) if that had happend to him lately, he said no, but it had happend in 04 because of the gas cap not being on tight, i got records for that from him, then i went to the dealership where it got serviced at and they asked me the same question about the gas cap, i said it wasnt that

so i got an appointment on friday and Lawrence Volvo in walnut creek

i want to get some more opinions on the engine light coming on

Does it go on and go off? It could mean Volvo wants it to come in for a service checkup.

Also did the previous owner get the ETM replaced and the new software update? If not have that done. The software should be under Volvo's new warranty. Replacing the ETM and software is a Volvo thing only. Only a Volvo dealership can do this. The ETM costs upwards of $1200 to replace and the software is like $50-$100 to have reloaded, but like it said the software should be under warranty from the recall.
