Default New car, lots of questions.

So I just bought a 2002 S80 T6 with 91000 miles, just wondering what is the best route to go towards making this car reliable but yet still quick enough to have fun with. So far I have changed the spark plugs to new Volvo plugs, replaced the air filter with a K&N filter, checked all of my turbo hoses, clamps, etc. Had the oil and transmission fluid flushed and filled with Lucas additives added to each. Car also has new tires and four wheelalignment. The questions that I have so far are what are some things to look out for on the S80 in terms of what might already be worn outor parts that are prone to failure. I have noticed that there is a clunking noise from the right front when going over small bumps, large bumps are quiet, however the car only does this for the first 10 miles or so into the current trip. Also do the front brakes wear faster than most cars? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Charlie Buffalo

Default RE: New car, lots of questions.

Welcome Firefighter. I have the same car with 73K on it. So far, so good. I also get the clunking sound and I think it is the struts or the springs or the bushings or whatever. I just leave it alone and hope for the best. I just did the brakes, rotors and tires. Supposedly, you need a timing belt at 100K and the guys on the forum say it's suicide not to get one. I have been lucky so far, and it is my 2nd T6.

Yea, that is VITAL... I would do that timing belt and serpentine belt job ASAP.. It will cost you about $300 maybe but its entirely worth it unless it has already been done. Look at the sticky on the top of this forum and get an idea of how risky it can be..

Secondly, from my understanding it is NOT reccomended to use any additives in this car, either for the oil or transmission.... Im pretty sure tech and a few others will agree with that. You say you had the transmission flushed, by flushed do you mean drained or do you mean power flushed... Power flushing these transmissions is also generally agreed to be a bad idea.. after doing the transmission, what ATF did you use? Seeing as you have a t6 you have a geartronic tranny which means you should be using synthetic ATF.
The front brakes do tend to wear faster due to more load on them, but I dont think thats its so much faster to warrant changing front before the rear.
