Default New to Volvo Forum: 2000 S70 Turbo Question

Hello everyone, I'm a new member here and enjoyed reading through all the posts and researched my problem. I've found lots of great information from reading past posts about oil leaks, coolant leaks, and error codes. But, I haven't found posts yet about removing the turbo altogether. I'm getting error code P0234 (Turbo/Super charger overboost condition. Faulty wastegate bypass regulator valve or Faulty Turbo charger). If the turbo does need to be replaced and since money is tight I'm wondering if anyone has thoughts about completely removing the turbo. Has anyone tried this? To try and make the code disappear I took the large air intake tube apart yesterday and found about a tablespoon of oil so I cleaned it out, reset the CE light, and am hoping it doesn't come back on (not likely). In Massachusetts if CE light is on they won't pass inspection. But the car doesn't need a turbo to drive, correct? We have 2 months before car needs to get inspected so I've got time to fix the turbo or take it out. I have done a few engine projects before, but never on a volvo. Thanks!

Edited> "Tablespoon amount of oil was found where air intake tube connects to top of Turbo"

The car will NOT run right with the turbo removed. I'm not sure you can even remove it and drive down the street. The ecu and many other things will be looking for it.

Thank you, that makes sense. Can you recommend a place to pick up a new turbo? I will also check with IPD tomorrow. Still doing research on if new turbo is needed. Cleared codes and CEL came back on with P0172 and P1238 after adding bottle of STP Fuel System Cleaner. Car was idling fine before that. Possible it cleaned so much junk out that plugs are fouled? Checking them later today. Thanks!

I don't know a lot about the turbo system specifically. You may want to pop over to a few other Volvo forums to track the problem. It may not be the turbo but some plugged line or something.
