Replaced Rack and Pinion, Power Steering Stopped Working
I have a 2000 S70 GLT SE, I replaced the rack and pinion with a used part maybe a couple of weeks ago because it was leaking. Yesterday, the power steering went out for like 20 miles or so and then it came back on. I am wondering if maybe the mechanic did not install it properly, or if this is an issue with a belt or the power steering pump or if I got a defective rack and pinion. Additionally, my car makes a noise that the mechanic says is likely an alternator but I have had no problems because of this as yet. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
The noise was there before replacing the rack and pinion and has not changed. It sounds like a whirling noise similar to when a water pump is bad, but my mechanic said it is likely inside the alternator. What would make the power steering work intermittenly?
