I was test drivng a 1998 S70 I5 2.4 non turbo.
Auto Transmission shifts very slow/turf from 1st to 3rd gear with quite of noises(like hole in the muffler) and vibration at accelation for those low gears. First timedriving S70.The car is owned by older lady with only 79900miles. She said that shehas 3 cars and drives this one only 2 times a week for short distance(5-10miles). Could be the result of not much driving? or possible transmission issues? Reading this site, does not seem like that transmission is anusual problem for this car. On the freeway, accelation was very turf & slowto speed of 65miles. Could be because I have been driving trubo engine cars? Please giveme somegood advices.Thanks in advance with more advices about 1998 S70 to make sure before buy it.

 

I have a non-turbo 1998 S70 with an automatic and 91K miles that gets driven usually 2-4 days per week around town in city traffic on short trips with bits of freeway driving. The shifting is smooth and quiet. If I step on it, it accelerates nicely, but it's certainly not the fastest car out there. Hope this helps.

Well, she wants $4500.00 It has very harsh and slow trasnmission in low gears. Outside color coating in many area was not good also. Not sure how much transmision would cost. Other than that, needs some celaning.Not sure if I want to buy this one.....................

 

Offer her $3500 and not a penny more, it clearly has some sort of issue with the engine. I bought mine for $3500 with 204k miles on it, but it ran strong with no issues.
