Default S70 1998 key... only a dealers ?

Hi. I am wondering if only a dealer can cut a 1998 S70 key?

I mean I can get a key on ebay for cheap, but then can I bring it to any good home/business locksmith and have it cut there ? of only the dealers have a special machine for this ?

thanks for your help

stef. Montreal.

Dealer is the only place. They actually have to order them in- they're laser- cut. However, since yours is a '98, it shouldn't be too expensive. US spec 98s didn't have the immobilizer system. Being in Canada, that might be different, though. My local dealer charges like $25 for the '98 and down laser- cut keys, and around $100 for the immobilizer ones.

My local dealer cuts them as long as you have one for the car now. So yours might be able to as well.
