the google doc says it no longer exists. I'd be interested in viewing these instructions because I was able to get my car's pin from a dealership, and I could go to a shop that has a scantool if I knew the procedure.

Our local PICK-N-PULL is having a 1/3 rd off sale this weekend. I seen a '98 XC there with the info **** so it has the trip computer. Can I pull that cluster and switch and install it in our S70 and be good to go?

Default Activation Details for a 1998 V70?

I found a switch and installed it in the dash of my 1998 V70. It was a a $10 part and 5-minute job . I took the car to my local mechanic (an independent volvo shop) to get a key FOB activated and the trip computer enabled. They were able to program the FOB using my PIN code, but were unable to activate the computer. Apparently there were able to find the area where a PIN is needed to activate/enable the trip computer, but the PIN that worked for the FOB didn't work. Is there a different PIN that I need for the computer, or are there extra steps that need to be taken to activate this?

@ Tr_Car_nut: I believe they are. The XC that I seen was a '99.

@ Mark: I think it's a software update/unlock. Just cheesy to have them locked out.

rspi: thanks. I'll see if the cluster is still on the '98 XC70. My local yard always seems to have plenty of Volvo's especially S70's and V70's.

What part of NC are you? I was in Charlotte and did not see any *70's.

If you see a '99+ get the washer sprayers and finder marker lights.

Ok, I recently read a post on Matt's site that you can't simply pull the cluster and trip switch from a '99 or '00 S/V70 and put it in a car that doesn't have the trip. They say you also need the ECU. Does anyone know the full story on this?

Today I pulled a cluster from a '98-1/2 V70-XC and installed it in a early model '98 S70 and the trip computer worked. I pulled the cluster and switch.

Default All pins do not work

I also had a nice mechanic at my local volvo dealership try to turn on the trip computer with his handheld. We tried every possible combination of pins from the warranty screen and none of them worked. I can't seem to find an answer to this that makes sense and I have been through every possible forum post on it. I don't need software (it's a 98), and I have the switch plugged in. I also made a post about this about a month ago and didn't get any responses. I don't believe that volvo is charging several hundred dollars to provide 4 numbers.

Does anyone have an answer or maybe someones email address that may have the answer???

Thanks guys
Zac

I have seen instructions on how they are supposed to do it but not sure where. If I run across them again I'll try to remember to link them here.

Default Instructions

That would be fantastic! Professor Talksalot has a post earlier in this thread but the link is broken and the attachments are too small to read. I'm not sure if this is the same info as you have but any literature you might have would be a huge help.

Thanks again!
Zac
