Default Shifting lights.

It seems the light that's supposed to light up what gear I'm in (Drive, Reverse, Park, whatever) is not working. I checked the fuses and they seem to be fine. How should I go about taking the covering off to check the bulb? Is it possible to change the light to a blue color or something other then the orange? Thanks!

Found this online, might help you get to the orange backing

Center Console removal
1. open the arm rest
2. remove the small flap
3. remove the black screws
4. open the coin holder
5. remove two screws as shown
6. remove screws from ashtray
7. disconnect the wires (black & grey junction, and also from cigarette lighter)
8. remove the two screws
9. open the flap under the hand brake
10.pull the console back and up to remove

I have the orange backing but is there no light behind the orange backing to illuminate it at night? I know the gears by heart and stuff but I just thought they would have some kind of illumination.

Yes the shifter does have a light bulb. I changed the one in our red car, did not take the center consol totally apart, just enough to get the bulb in there. Scratched up my had pretty good and it was a pain, took about 15 to 20 minutes.
