Question Speedometer/Odometer Quits

Need help in understanding why the speedometer and odometer displays go blank while driving. The speed needle drops to zero and the mileage readings goes to all dashes. This will self correct by shutting the engine down and restarting or some times it just returns to normal while still underway. If the car is stopped and this happens the transmission seems to be stuck in a high gear as Acceleration is poor.

Definitely bad ABS module. Had same thing happen to me. Dealership wanted to charge $900 to replace. Found a company who would send refurbished one for A LOT less as long as you sent the bad one to them within a certain time. Took 15 minutes to install. Just keep in mind--you are getting a refurbished part.

Thanks for your input. Still investigating; will advise of outcome. My mechanic is puzzled that ABS and speedometer are related. Also now I see the ABS light and Brake light go on sometime when the needle goes to zero.

I just got my ABS module rebuilt by Victor Rocha (search this site), and it fixed my speedometer as well as the ABS and Traction control. They are related. Most mechanics won't know this. There is a large independent shop I went to that specializes in Volvos and they did not know it either. They wanted to rebuild my ABS unit for $677 (including removal/installation). Victor charged me $140, with me removing it and sending it to him.

what is his (victor rocha) web site address? I've had similar problems with my 1999 s70, with the addition of blinking upshift arrow and check engine light.

Thanks
