Default Timing Belt

Sorry, I accidently also posted this on the General Forum.

Is the Volvo 2.3 liter T5 a free rolling engine?

You know, if the timing belt breaks, does the engine disintegrate itself, or does everything just hang loose and the engine waits for a new belt?

Just curious!

Default RE: Timing Belt

I'm a new member with a 98 V70 T-5 and everything I've seen so far indicates that we're in the same boat, if the belt goes, so does the motor. The 2.3 is called an interference motor. The dealer I bought my car from said the timing belt and related items were replaced at his shop, but next chance I get I'm still going to pull it down to verify.
