Default Trans issues

ok.. first issue in a while.. pulled up to the drive in at wendys put it in N got my stuff, back to D nothing there, dident shift or somthing, got out, pushed it, gave it some gas. felt like the trans lost pressure or the fluid is not good, slipped bad started to roll at about 4 grand then grabbed and felt normal, crawled home, by the time i got it home it wouldent go anywhere. had to turn car off then back on to get it to move, the up arrow for winter mode flashes now, i dont know what to to do, i have no idea and bad luck with trans's.

could it be electronic or the trans just go bad, there were no symptoms, its never slipped before or anything. just went all of a sudden.

any help would be great, ive had the car for less than 5 thousand miles....

how is the transmission fluid? any leaks under your car? it could deal with the filter for the transmission. if there is too much gunk caught up in it then your car will have trouble shifting gears. transmission repairs are very expensive. see if you can diagnose the problem yourself. check the fluid level and the filter. for a 98 i doubt the gears are worn down.

Take it to the volvo dealer and see what the say. If they say you need a new transmission then I would take it to a transmission shop like AMCO to see I much it would cost to repair because the dealer will only replace the trannny. I know the early S80's and the XC90's have tranny problems with there GM transmissons but I rarely here the S70 transmissions going bad. How many miles are on the car and do you know if the owner before you ever changed or flushed the transmission fluid.

If the transmission fluid is dark and burnt then I would get the fluid replaced or the tranny flushed at the volvo dealer and see what happens. And since the fluild is dark and burnt I dont think the owner before you ever replaced it.

Get the fluid changed but in the end I will bet the tranny is going.
Maybe a tranny shop can track it down to a soleniod then go for it.

The Dealer usually won't mess with it.
