Default Trim on top of car running front to back?

The "trim" piece of plastic/rubber that runs on the top of my car on both sides is severely cracked. On the driver side, there's like a channel running down the middle of the trim. It hasn't gotten quite as bad on the passenger side.

How is this trim replaced? There look to be end caps or something at the ends.

It's easiest if you start at the base of the windshield, with the hood up. Pull up at the edge, and just walk it back towards the back of the car. If you intend to save/reuse it, be careful because it's just aluminum and will bend and kink pretty easy.

Southwest Automotive in Dallas has a guy that comes around and will remove and then repaint that strip flat black--does a fantastic job and very affordable. Doesn't look like it would be a hard job to do yourself; I had them do it on mine after that trim piece was all peeling and cracked, and it looks great now.

I was thinking of fixing it using plastidip, but I was wondering how I'd fill the channel running down the middle. If I chipped away all the plastic, then I could just repaint it so that it's not a silver piece of trim.

I just dealt with this same issue. I chipped away all the loose cracked plastic, sanded all the left over glue, and plastidipped them black rubber and all. It will be interesting to see how it holds up. It's not perfect but looks better than the shards of disintegrating plastic.
