I used the search engine and found one relevant search but no answer. I drive a 1998 volvo s70 with 70k miles. The battery died and it was about 4+ years old so I went and purchased a new one and installed it. I lost my clicker so i have to use the key to unlock the car. Everytime I unlock the car it opens the trunk so I have to go back and shut it. Also the red alarm dot on the dash board flashes 100% of the time driving or parked. It gets frustrating have to walk to the back of my car to shut my trunk in the pouring down seattle rain!! Any ideas on what it could be?

How long have you had the car? I would disconnect the neg battery cable for 15 to 30 minutes then connect it back. Hopefully that will reset the central locking system.

 

Has any of the locks been replaced lately? Or anything in the central locking system?

 

So today I went out and disconnected the battery for over 30 minutes and then I reconnected it and it kind of made things worse. Now every time I unlock the door with the keys or by pressing the unlock button on the drivers door the trunk opens the only way to lock the doors is by shutting them using my key from the outside. I have not had anything replace recently besides the MAF sensor about 2 months ago and the battery three days ago. I checked the wiring under the trunk lid as well as the #18 fuse and disconnected both and reconnected while the battery was disconnected to see if it was something simple. Nothing so far. Any other suggestions?

 

Not sure where the box is. The one for the 850's is behind the glovebox. I would unplug it and plug it back in to see what happens. Maybe it has gone bad but I have never heard of that kind of probelm.

 

Ok the reason I asked is because I have seen this 1 time before. But it was because the lock system was replaced and during the programming it was programmed as a V70 instead of S70. So every time you unlocked it the trunk would open.
