Default Volvo S70 random problems

Ok. I bought a project car last week. 1999 S 70. Perfect interior, body and paint. Only thing is it needs a bit of work under the hood. I have no problem with that. So far I have ordered a new Abs module and will install that later today.

The big issue is coolant is leaking from somewhere. I took it to a shop and asked them to check the heater core since that seems to be a common issue. They did and said it was fine. My issue with this is that when you go to kick the heat on...1 it does not work and 2 it smells like coolant. He did a pressure test and said the head gasket was the problem.

Here is my issue. The oil is not milky, the car is not over heating, there is no smoke from the exhaust, there is no smoke from the engine itself. As a matter of fact the only thing going on is it loses coolant. Is there anything else you guys could think needs to be checked before replacing the head gasket?
