Hello All,

I'm having some intermittent speedometer problems in a 1998 S70 GLT. Very simple... Sometimes the speedometer just doesn't work. 99.9% of the time it doesn't work from starting the car. However, if I turn the car off/on again it always seems to work again. All other gauges work fine all the time.

I'd say it's about 40% of the time it doesn't work when starting the car. The other 60% it works after turning the car off/on again.

Not sure if this helps the diagnosis; But when the speedo isn't working, the cruise also doesn't work. I just had the car scanned last week, and it scanned clear.

Any ideas of what this could be? It's not urgent at this point, but I'm thinking about taking it in to get it checked out. I figured I'd ask around first.

Is the ABS light on?

Also have you tried wiggling the key after it is running without turning off the car?

 

Try the moving the key switch ,like tech said. I had the same issue and replacing key switch worked.

I am also having the same speedo problems. With mine, I usually get the ABS light & theBRAKE light but then seemingly for no reason the speedo will just start working again. When this happens the original warning lights will go off but thenthe Trac Control Light will come on.In the beginning I had only the ABS light and Trac contro light coming on for about 2 weeks, then the speedo started cutting out and I would get any combination of ABS, BRAKE, check engine, falshing arrow, STC,andmileage displays -----
. Also sometimes things go bad from the moment I start it other times it willbe fine at start but then go bad while driving down the road. In the beginning there seemed to be a connectionbetween hitting a bump in the road and the lights coming on.

From whatI read this soundsmost likey the like the ABS module, butI alsoread it could be the key switch or a battery cable in a relay box. Do these sound like possibilities to you? Any thought on how I can narrow it down?

Oh yeah anyone have contact info on someone who rebuilds/fixes the abs module?
