weird 98 S70 issue
I was driving my car along yesterday when I reached down to adjust the power seat. As soon as I did the engine cut off and I had to pull off the road. Once I got off the road when I tried to start it again and the starter clicked, nothing else. The engine does not turning over. Any ideas anyone?
Have you checked the battery voltage? I'm wondering if the alternator may have failed. It sounds like you've got power since the starter clicks when you try to start the car. It just sounds like you don't have enough. Try following these steps first:
Test the battery's voltage (Full charge is around 12.6 Volts)
If it's low, put it on a charger for 4-6 hours (if you have one)
Have the battery load tested (most auto parts stores can do this for you free)
Whether the battery is bad or not, have the alternator tested (auto parts store)\
I've had alternators die on me while driving and they will cause the car to shut off.
Hopefully this is the solution to the problem, if not, repost.

When you hear the click, do you see the lights on the dash turn off or dim? If so, whileyou have the battery charging, I would remove and clean the battery terminals and and wiring. Make sure you have the radio code so you can enter that to get the radio working again.
Invest in a multimeter. Like $5-10 at the parts place.
Measure the battery voltage as the previous poster stated. 12.6 volts
After you charge it, check the voltage. If you don't have 12+ volts the car is not likely to turn over much.
Try to start the car.
If it just clicks you likely have a lose battery cable. There have been a few of these threads that have had that happen. RSPI has a battery video that will help you with fixing it.
If it starts then measure the voltage. Should be between 13.5 and 14 volts. If its not then the alternator has failed.
Usually when the alternator fails, the car can drive for about 20 minutes and then you will see the dash light come on, tach turn off and it start to run pretty poorly.
