I have a 99 s70 T5 with the stupid cartridge type oil filter. I dont know if that is better or not but my question and problem is why did they switch and can I go to regular filter without needing to buy something?

Right this very minute I tried to get the oil filter cartridge to unscrew and it doesnt want to. I had to buy a special oil filter remover for this car and it just slips when I really try to loosen the filter.

Pisses me off. this is my first oil change on this car. and it appears to have given previous owner same issue.

what can be done/changed to get rid of this problem. I am not sure right now that I am going to be able to get the sob off to replace the cartridge

 

luckily I got it off and filter replaced.

now is there a benefit to a cartridge type other than maybe cost?
