Default @$%&^$#* Fuel Door

May sound like a minor annoyance but after 5 years of this I'm fed up!

After refueling, the fuel door will swing out away from the body side latch before I build up enough speed for the lock to activate. Then it locks and the door is swinging in the breeze and won't close until you unlock it again.
Usually takes 2 or 3 attempts to get it closed properly. The old S70 works flawlessly, as do my other cars so it IS possible! I asked the dealer once - "It's working just the way it was designed", sigh.
Any ideas/fixes??
Thanks

Default fule door...

the spring is replaceable if you want to spend a couple bucks to do it...you simply punch out the old one's pins and hammer in the new ones...very easy job...

More like gently tap in the new ones while praying you don't break one...

Spring?
Spring?
Spring?

Well, it's done it since new and I always thought a spring would be a good idea. Must be have been "Made in Detroit" .

I've had a 2000 S80 since 2004. It's not the spring, but the couple little hooks on the fuel door hinge that have snapped off. It's happened to me twice now. The spring is still attached but the hooks where the spring rests on have snapped. It's an easy replacement, use a roll pin punch to knock the pins through and the new pins are attached to the new hinge. Gently tap the new pins into place and the new hinge will be friction fitted.

Part number 31265160 (replaces 30649879).

The part isn't that expensive, so since the second time it broke. I keep an extra one in the garage.
