[Q] How does the AWD system in the '09 S80 T6 work?
I searched Google and these forums for the answer but wasn't able to find the relevant info. Apologies if I overlooked the answer.
THE SHORT SHORT VERSION:
I understand that the '09 S80 T6's Haldex system is in a sense a FWD system with a viscous coupling to the rear wheels. Are there open differentials on the front and rear axles, or does either have some form of limited-slip differential (traction control doesn't count)?
THE SUPER DETAILED VERSION:
I live in Denver and fear high powered RWD cars will lead to my loss of sanity, so I'm interested in buying a used '09 Volvo S80 T6 AWD with 80,000 miles on it. I'm not worried about losing control in the rain or even some wheelspin here and there in a light powdering; I'm worried about getting stuck in 8 inches of snow going up a hill like has happened to me before. I will never forget the faces the Subaru drivers made as they drove past me.
I'm not finding any info on the front/rear differentials of the S80 AWD. Am I correct in assuming both ends have open differentials? If so, am I wrong for assuming that it just means I get to watch one front wheel and one rear wheel spin endlessly while I'm stuck in a ditch? If I emphasize that AWD is the most important feature in my search for a luxury performance sedan, would you steer me away from the S80 and into one of their competitor's AWD cars?'
Thanks.
