Default '00 S80 RUNS POORLY NO CHECK ENG LIGHT

I work at a small independent volvo shop...usually can figure out these runability problems via the check engine light/codes/downloading codes via VIDA.

but i've come across one that doesn't give me any information. Here are the details:

2000 S80-no complaints of runability until a test drive the other day. I was at a complete stop, put my foot on accelerator, and there was a hesitation/surge with the car before actually moving forward. I thought to myself posibly the software upgrade...I continued on my test drive, came to a stop sign, again a complete stop, and the car shut off. There was no rev-ing, no irratic idle to warn me-just shut off. I put the shifter into "P", cycled the key off, and restarted. No problem. The vehicle felt fine for the rest of the drive back to the shop (aside from some heart palpatations on the drivers account).

Second test drive: described to me as the car having no power. Low power when accelerating. Not the previous "spin the rear tires" kind of car that it typically is.

Again, no check engine light. But, just to be sure, I plugged it into VIDA to be sure there were no 'hidden codes'. No. None. So...Anyone else been there?! I saw an old post where Tech mentioned throttle body...how about any other thoughts?

Greatly appreciated,
*PANDA*
