06 750il v. 08 s80 awd
I am test driving an 06 bmw 750il until monday.I love the car but it did not perform well today in under 2" of snow. The dealer also has the 08 s80 with 20000 miles compared to 50000 for bmw for the same price. My question is am I crazy for thinking I will buy the Volvo. Help me out here.
I havent driven either and I suspect I never may but I can at least offer you some professional reviews online...
Alot of it depends on trim level and engine selection and what you personally want the car for.. naturally the volvo is a bit smaller and lighter and will handle better in snow with AWD but will definitely not have anywhere near the same power as the 7 series...
Take a look at some of the reviews and see if it helps.. the volvo matches or bests the bimmer in everything besides performance..
the truth is, if you want to be a bit less blatant, the volvo is a better choice but if you want to flaunt some $$.. .go for the 7

In my Opinion, the 7 series is a GREAT car for dry, even road environments! Great pick up , great german quality (though expensive as hell for maintenance) and Great fit and finish! Then you have an S80 (AWD), exellent all around car! Unless you are doing the quarter mile, do you really need that extra power the 7 series has?? They are both great cars, but I would go with the s80. Plus you won't have to deal with BMW's I-drive computer system!
In my experience with both BMW and Volvo is......
Both cars weight ~3850, and both cars have similar HP/TQ.
My BMW 540iwill handle slightly better thanMy Volvo V70 R,but cost a S*** load of money for maintenance andpreformance mods.
My Volvo V70 Ris probably fast then my BMW 540i, and it dosen't cost as much for maintenance and preformance mods.
I have never Driven the new S80 or the new 7series, but I amsure the BMWwill have a little bit more power, but I am sure it is A lot heavier. The S80 has AWD which will really be the better choice for the snow.
My advise to you would be to read the BMW forums as well as ask questions here.
Both cars will have their expensive repairs, butthe Volvo will probably out live the BMW in the long run, and not to mention cheaper.

Bmw's curb weight is 4,452 lbs, bigger engine 4.8L v8 lol, I think the V8 volvo would beat it being that its awd and lighter... tats a tough call, your comparing top end car to top end car. I feel that thet the s80 would be a better daily driver car, especially better all season round. I agree 750 would flaunt your money lol
