When you press all the way down the turbos kick in at full, until then they are just running with the car normally. That yank you feel is the boost of power sent from your fully packed turbo to your engine.

i have owned, evos, scoobys, custom renault 5 gt turbo running 240bhp and the 'yank' is obvious...but the car not being stable i.e the front end moves as though it isnt tight enough scares the hell out of me.

will check the bushes later

You probably have loose tie rods.

I have always called it turbo torque. My T6 does the same. There is a slight turbo lag when you stomp on it, then a fairly pronounced, but very short, pull to the right - then you just get pushed back in the seat while you achieve launch velocity.
